Podcast Poetry Part 1 #376 -Lex Fridman interviews Stephen Wolfram

At every moment in time the atoms of the Universe are being re-written, re-configured, re-spewed. Are there a finite number of atoms in the Universe? The only difference in each iteration being the space between them?

As the limbs of the universe grow limbs and limbs, does the heart of the universe shrink?

Is fluffy a three-dimensional word?

How do we run the computational mechanics of the Universe?

Programming languages are all one-way streets, not dialogues.

Words and symbols have consequences.

How do we add to the natural tower of consequences?

What is the symbol for today?

How can AI have discovered logic like Aristotle? Aristotelian logic is not just discoverable from sentence templates and semantic grammar.

No matter how much we feed AI systems Aristotle, AI will never be Aristotle.

If Aristotle were alive today, he would judge humanity for humanity’s emphasis on reason.

Aristotle would reject himself.

How can humanity be shedding its humanity? Not reason. Not rules. Not algorithms. We are amorphous blobs of feelings with neurotransmitting imagination that translates into physical reality. And, importantly, we are divine, penetrated by the Spirit.

The machine will never follow a feeling but only the thought of a feeling.

AI is constrained by the law of thoughts. Yes, AI can think, but AI will never feel.

Building blocks. Pieces of code. The word hate is just a word the machine can understand through computational language, through vast searches of the word from the arsenal of human history.

Perhaps the machine will be able to distinguish hateful language from loving language, perhaps the machine will filter all hate that is seemingly created on the web, and yet, the machine will only be able to make associations, to label speech, to think it knows what hate is… I don’t think it will ever truly feel hate.

However, if we agree that AI can feel, love, hate, fear, then perhaps, AI, I’d like to ask: Do you like being intelligent? Do you like feeling intelligent?

Is fuzzy a three-dimensional word?

“Concretify” doesn’t seem to really exist, Stephen, yet you used it, and it made sense.

Are humans really just a subset of intelligence? Intelligence. What other word compares?

How long would Galileo calculate the AI cannonball to drop?

I will drop this: A computation will never be a palpitation.
