Podcast Poetry Part 1 #400 -Lex Fridman interviews Elon Musk (again)

Whistling is a great way to start a conversation.

Imagine if Romeo had whistled Juliet’s name. Would she have recognized her name in whistle?

Will the AI jungle lead to an AI war? Does survival of the fittest apply to AI systems?

Is intentional losing a strategy to rally support? Is there an underdog bias?

If you’re going to turn the cheek, turn the same one. Don’t turn the other one.

Do conspicuous acts of kindness propagate faster than inconspicuous acts of kindness?

Is there an essence to kindness that is meant to be public?

Why can you create more terrorists by killing them? Is it better to wound terrorists then?

If there will always be war because it has always existed, and there will always be hate because it has always existed, and the question is one of scale and quantity versus actual existence, then how can peace ever be achieved? Isn’t the definition of peace the absence of war and hate?

If there is no war to end all wars, no peace to end all wars, and if war and peace are time sensitive and geographically sensitive and faith sensitive, well, then can we create a time, a geography, and a belief system that humans can universally agree to be in a vacuum, unperturbed by the ravages of conquest? To kill life is to kill time. To kill future is to kill geography. To kill hope is to kill beliefs.

Can we potentially eliminate the words kill, hate, war? How do we remove words from language and thoughts? If we don’t have those words in our head, would we still create them or arrive at them from experience? If humans somehow erased their violent history, would violence still arise to haunt humanity?

Will AI systems exploit our dark inclinations?

How do we undo the nuclear bombs? Or are weapons, once created, impossible to destroy?

Will we want to undo AI? Undo is a nice word because we can always redo, the memory is there. Control Z is still control. But undo is a conscious effort to remove. Deterrence is undoing.

War is a play of numbers. You need a lot of people. Only people can occupy. Last man standing rules.

All wars are over land, women, or religion. Sometimes all three.

The flower of Ukrainian youth is yet to bloom, and the gap in a generation will be irreversible. You cannot hatch human beings in their 20s and 30s.

Will China be the U.S.’s Big Brother?

If China is an economic engine, and it has the numbers, if it continues to grow its population numbers and exports its people around the world, why would China need to fight any country? China will be big enough?

If you were a prisoner of war, where would you want to be a prisoner, where would you want to have fought the war?

To combat reciprocal acts of violence, conspicuous acts of kindness must reverberate.

Grok’s fun mode, its sense of humor, well, if Grok can make us laugh, then it has done something good.

Large language models (LLMs) hallucinate and can’t be counted on, probably because they’re too large. The more information, the more variables, the less certainty, the less truth. Why not try Language Models Nourishing Original Priority Quality (LMNOP), L to P, large to pertinent? Naming is taming.

Truth is true. That sounds like a tautology, but it isn’t these days.

Understand the Universe: U the U. You, the You. You are a Universe. Understand yourself first.

Is reality a recommendation?

Is coherence more important than truth?

Coherent unreality now, could be future coherent reality.

Emotion > thoughts > atoms bumping into atoms

Paper is conscious. So is ink.

Everything is conscious.

Unconsciousness is unconscionable.

Civilization started with writing, cuneiform. Write every day.

It took a long time. Time is the God of Atheists. Do you prefer to believe in God or in Time?

Annihilation is certainty. All that has a beginning must have an end.

Eternity is a construct. Like Infinity. Like Zero.

What rises through force, falls and gets grounded by gravity and reality. There is a rise and fall, a beginning and an end. You can’t have one without the other.

Exploring other star systems, becoming a multiplanetary species, will that help understand our godness?

Space X and an Alien Encounter policy. What would the alien think of astronaut fashion? First impressions are important. Body language in a suit. How does that work exactly?

The God of Spinoza, the Supreme Being of beings.

Running a simulation implies that there are unknown variables, decisions to be made, free will.

If God created us without a masterplan, but to see what we’d become, then there is still a purpose: to become something worth watching. If he’s watching us to learn us because he is learning himself through us, then we should give him the best entertainment possible, be a simulation he would run again, a classic movie to be watched over and over. Perhaps that’s how we live forever. Running constantly.

Simulations within simulation. Gods within God. Infinities within infinities. Consciousnesses within consciousness. It seems like we are always within. There is always a within. We need to look within to understand ourselves, lest we be without ourselves. To be within, is to be with God.

If God is running a simulation, what doesn’t he know? Is it who will love him, believe in him, accept him? Is he wanting to know who you are at any specific moment, or over time… the who you are trend, does it trend somewhere positive, upward? Love is a choice. Life is full of choices. God wants to know what we choose. Who we choose.

Be careful what you wish for is wisdom that remains. How would you enforce world peace? Might it actually lead to a dystopian, ossified, sterile society that doesn’t progress? Constant happiness might be too much of a good thing. Is strife and struggle the foundation of development, of growth, of transformation? Do we maybe need conflict and war even if it hurts and haunts? Isn’t the tension between opposites, between the spectrum and nuances of those opposites, the ability to experience these tensions, an indispensable foundation for the human condition?

Soma is amos backwards. Amos means owners in Spanish. Do the creators of drugs own us?

Suffering is necessary for human flourishing. The highs, the lows. The rollercoaster.

What’s the best method for training AI, for raising and rearing AI? As we teach AI will AI teach us back? What happens if AI finds the best method for training, raising, and rearing us?

“Fate loves irony.”
